Paschimbanga - is it a right name?

Friends even after a deep thinking I could not find any reason behind the transfer of name of the state of West Bengal from West Bengal to Paschimbanga. Yah! you may say, I being a purely dull headed person, could not understand the circus of the political parties; though still I am thinking.

Actually the colonial hangover which never goes apart from us, have made our mind a peculiar trap of finding nothing better for us. Mamata Banerjee says 'how much benefited the state will be; the people will understand in future. Let us hope so, that we will understand one day. But coming in list only 8 steps above what better will happen?

Can any one answer me?
